Manu Parekh: The Vibrant Chronicler of Culture
Manu Parekh (b. 1939, Ahmedabad) is a leading Indian contemporary artist known for his vivid, expressionist landscapes. A third-generation modernist, he graduated in 1962 from the Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai, under Mukund Shroff. Influenced by Rabindranath Tagore and Ram Kinkar Baij, Parekh’s work often explores themes of spirituality and human connection. His iconic Banaras series reflects the city’s mysticism and contradictions. Parekh has exhibited globally, including at the Smithsonian Institution and Jehangir Art Gallery. He received the Padma Shri in 1991 and the Lalit Kala Akademi Award in 1982. He lives and works in New Delhi.
