Lalu Prasad Shaw (b. 1937, Siuri, West Bengal) is a distinguished Indian modernist painter, printmaker, and sculptor. He earned a diploma in painting from the Government College of Art & Craft, Kolkata, in 1959. Shaw’s work is renowned for its stylized portraits of Bengali men, women, and couples, characterized by bold lines, vibrant colors, and a sense of stillness. Influenced by traditional Indian art forms such as company paintings, Ajanta cave paintings, and Kalighat pats, his art captures intimate moments from daily life. Shaw has exhibited extensively in India and abroad, and his works are part of several prestigious collections.
